WWE News: Brock Lesnar To Return To UFC This November
The current WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has been in a lot of interesting situations over the last few months. He beat Goldberg for the title he currently holds when he took him down at WrestleMania 33 earlier this year. He then defended the title against Samoa Joe at WWE Great Balls of Fire a little over a week ago.
Many loved the angle with he and Joe and want to see it continue. Right now though, a lot of things are shifting and there is a lot of speculation regarding the Universal Title. This is especially true after WWE RAW this past Monday.
Brock Lesnar is set to walk into WWE SummerSlam with rumors swirling that he will drop the title. The question really is, why would WWE have Lesnar drop the title this soon with former plans having him hold it longer?
Why Is Brock Lesnar Dropping The WWE Universal Title?
There seemed to be a lot of speculation regarding this. However, many felt it had a lot to do with the fact that WWE wanted to go another direction for WrestleMania 34 next year. Original plans called for Brock to drop the title to Roman Reigns on the grandest stage of them all, which would have had him hold the title for an entire year.
No one really wanted that, which is why plans shifted to have him drop it at the SummerSlam event. The question was, who would he drop it to? Roman still seems like the guy, but there is speculation Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe could take it. However, there seems to one glaring reason WWE is having Brock drop the championship and yet it has nothing to do with wrestling.
Brock Is Returning To The UFC
“Paul Heyman and Brock were at the UFC HQ during IFW. Had a meeting with the UFC brass. Brock’s return is eminent. Most likely at MSG on Nov4.”
While many feel this is huge for the UFC, there are a lot of problems with this entire thing. Number one, Brock Lesnar claimed to be retired last year but also felt he was not done in the world of MMA. He loved going back and taking it to Mark Hunt, and many felt Brock was unstoppable yet again. WWE liked that Brock was there and still working with them, as it made him look credible, but the obvious issue had to do with what seemed to make Lesnar want to retire.
Brock Lesnar Has Not Served His Full Suspension
Brock Lesnar was caught by the testing company that reports directly to the New York State and Nevada State Athletic Commissions. UFC has to use them as their direct source for everything regarding testing to keep things as legitimate as possible. Brock was testing eight times in the span of a month due to his return being a last minute sort of thing for UFC 200 last year.
Out of those eight, Brock did pass six of the tests. The problem was that he failed two, which were not reported until about a week after the fight was over. This tests apparently happened within days of the fight with Hunt. However, the result has been taken off the records basically as Brock Lesnar was proven to have been on something.
He was suspended for a year but did not serve the entire thing before he “retired.” You have to be unretired officially and serve as an active fighter in order for the suspension to continue out. He has about half a year left. It is said that he is now back in the testing pool.
With UFC going back to New York again, and some of the company’s biggest fighters probably not working the show as of now….they’re kind of stuck. Brock Lesnar is clearly a draw and has proven to be a successful wrestler and MMA Fighter. His return last year brought a lot of speculation in as many did not know if he could still go. Not only could he, but he was better than ever before.
November is the perfect time as it is a massive show in need of names. On top of this, if Brock is activated right now and tested every month, passing each test, he will be available to return to the octagon by November. Perfect timing right?
WWE May Get A Lot Out Of This
Let’s be honest, Brock Lesnar may not seem like it, but he’s a company guy. He would never do something without telling anyone. Last year he had to get permission by WWE to work for the UFC, and the company has yet to be paid back for the move. It appears that there are plans to have WWE and UFC partner up involving the women of both places, which may finally get them payback from UFC after using Lesnar.
Cris Cyborg seems to be challenging Becky Lynch to a fight at SummerSlam while the UFC Four Horsewomen and WWE Four Horsewomen started a mini-rivalry at the Mae Young Classic last week, which will see come into play when the show airs later next month. That very UFC group includes Ronda Rousey by the way.
This means WWE would possibly get double payback from UFC, who would allow Cyborg and Rousey to appear in wrestling form for the WWE. The 4 on 4 match very well could go down at WWE Survivor Series, which interestingly happens in November too. Weird how that works, huh?
